Description: The Citizens' Panel is made up of 1,000 North east Derbyshire residents and is representative of the age, gender and ward profile of North east derbyshire. The Panel is sent 4 postal questionnaires each year which ask their views on a variety of topics. This survey includes questions on community safety, drug and alcohol misuse, quality of life, council services and performance, the scrutiny function, museums and heritage and Fairtrade products.

Project objectives: The aims of this survey are to gather the views of a representative sample of local residents on community safety, drug and alcohol misuse, quality of life, Council services and performance, the scrutiny function, museums and heritage and Fairtrade products.

Reason for consultation: The Council wishes to consult on these topics so that it can improve services to local people.

Expected outcomes: Likely outcomes are the development of a museum and cultural strategy, contribution to the community safety strategy and the development of a Fairtrade Area.

How results will be used to influence decision making/service delivery: Results will be circulated to the relevant Council services and presented to senior managers and to the North East Derbyshire Cabinet.

How results will fed back to respondents: The results of each survey are fed back to Panel members through the Viewpoint newsletter which is sent with each questionnaire. There is also a regular article called "Points of View" in the Council magazine ("the NEWS"). The magazine is circulates to 45,000 homes and businesses in the area.

How information about subsequent decisions made and services provided/improved will be fed back to the consultee groups, the wider public and other stakehonders: Through the Citizens' Panel newsletter and via press releases, "the NEWS" and the NEDDC website.
