Project objectives: The aim of the consultation is to seek the views and opinions of the public on the Single Equality Scheme. It will help us ensure that - the priorities we have identified are correct - NEDDC as an employer promotes equality of opportunity in the workplace - your general views on the content of the scheme - if there are other areas or actions we need to include.
Reason for consultation: We have both a moral duty and a legal duty to consult on our Single Equality Scheme. Under the disability discrimination act we have a legal duty to consult and involve disabled people on our disability equality scheme. the disability equality scheme forms part of the single equality scheme. We have a moral duty to ensure that the actions we are taking to eliminate discrimination both in the organisation and in the community will make a real impact. The aim of the scheme is to promote equality and eliminate discrimination. If there are areas which we have excluded or actions we could undertake to eliminate discrimination that are reasonable then we will implement them within the scheme.
Expected outcomes: The outcome of the consultation is to have an improved equality scheme that will have had the input of the public. We will be able to confirm the priorities we have set out in the equality scheme are correct.

How results will be used to influence decision making/service delivery: The results of the consultation will be considered by the Equality Steering Group and the Disability Equalities Group. If the recommendations are reasonable they will be implemented into the scheme.
How results will fed back to respondents: Where individuals or groups have fed back then we will personally advise of the results
How information about subsequent decisions made and services provided/improved will be fed back to the consultee groups, the wider public and other stakehonders: Subsequent decisions made on the single equality scheme will be fedback through the Disabled People's Consultative Group, the NEWS magazine and the internet pages for equalities.
